SMART Goal Setting
Description:
Knowing what we want to accomplish and how we intend to accomplish it is the first step to taking constructive action steps to meeting our work goals. This 2-hour class teaches participants the importance of accountability, the SMART goal model, and how to give and receive constructive feedback.
Course Objectives:
At the end of this workshop, participants will:
- Understand the role of goal setting in performance management.
- Have tools to help your employees set and achieve goals.
- Have a three-phase model that will help you prepare employees for peak performance, activate their inner motivation, and evaluate their skills.
- Have a better knowledge of motivational tools and techniques.
Outline:
Lesson 1: Course Overview
The instructor will spend the first few minutes introducing themselves and explaining what will take place in the training for the day.
Lesson 2: Accountability vs. Responsibility
Participants will discuss the different definitions of accountability and responsibility and will discover who is responsible for making sure goals are met.
Lesson 3: Setting Goals
Participants will delve into learning the entire SMART goal model and will create their own SMART goal with a hands-on activity.
Lesson 4: Giving and Receiving Feedback
Participants will discuss the need for feedback when looking at work goal outcomes. They will learn the 6 characteristics of good feedback as well as how to take criticism.
Lesson 5: Workshop Wrap-Up
At the end of the course, students will have an opportunity to ask questions and fill out an action plan.
